What Is Calcium Carbide

Calcium carbide chemical name for calcium carbide, molecular formula for CaC2, the appearance of grey, brown, black or brown lumpy solid, is the basic raw material of organic synthetic chemical industry, the use of calcium carbide as raw material can be synthesized a series of organic compounds, for industry, agriculture, medicine to provide raw materials. Its main uses are:

(1) calcium carbide and water reaction generated by acetylene can be synthesised into many organic compounds, such as: synthetic rubber, synthetic resins, acetone, ketene, carbon black, etc.; at the same time, acetylene an oxygen flame is widely used in metal welding and cutting.

(2) heating powdered calcium carbide and nitrogen, the reaction generates calcium cyanamide, i.e., lime nitrogen, heating lime nitrogen and salt reaction generated by the cyanide melt used for gold mining and non-ferrous metal industry.

(3) Calcium carbide itself can be used as a desulphurising agent in the iron and steel industry.
