Mesh Cut and Particle Size Distribution

A mesh number alone does not completely define a powder. When you request silicon metal powder, send the sieve standard together with the required passing or retained percentage.

If your process uses laser diffraction instead of sieve analysis, specify the required D10, D50 and D90 values and the test method. A D50 value should not be treated as equivalent to a mesh cut.

Q: Is silicon metal powder the same as silica fume?

No. Silicon metal powder is elemental silicon feedstock, while silica fume is mainly composed of silicon dioxide. Their chemistry, particle characteristics and applications are different.

Q: Can I order silicon powder by mesh size alone?

It is better to provide the sieve standard and required passing or retained percentage together with the chemistry limits. A mesh designation alone may not completely describe the powder distribution.

Q: Can the powder size be customized?

Send the required mesh range, micron range or particle-size distribution. We will confirm whether the requested specification is available.

Q: What information is needed for a quotation?

Please provide the silicon grade or Si minimum, Fe / Al / Ca limits, particle size, quantity, packing requirement and destination port.
