What Are The Precautions For Grinding TC4 Titanium Alloy?

Because titanium alloy materials tend to fill the grinding wheel, it brings difficulties to the grinding of titanium alloy rods and TC4 titanium alloys. During grinding, a higher temperature rise is generated at the interface between the metal and the grinding wheel, causing the grinding surface to produce High residual stress, at the same time, the surface finish is not ideal.

These difficulties can be basically solved by using the following methods:

(1) Choose a suitable grinding wheel, such as a silicon carbide grinding wheel, with medium grit size (60~80), medium hardness (J~M), surface speed of 700~1200m/min, alumina (alumina powder or corundum) The grinding wheel should be used at a lower speed, such as 550~600min. Medium granularity is also required.

(2) Use lower grinding wheel speed and feed speed; due to the low grinding wheel speed, less sparks are generated.

(3) Titanium sparks may catch fire when encountering oil mist, but immersing the workpiece completely in oil can reduce this risk. Anti-rust ammonium nitrite aqueous solution completely eliminates the risk of fire.

(4) Use buffer or cutting fluid coolant to cool, and use ceramic bonding agent and chlorinated or sulfurized cutting oil to achieve good results. No matter what type of coolant is used, it must be well filtered to eliminate the "fishtail" stains caused by the recirculation of titanium particles.
