It's used in steelmaking to clean iron and steel. The titanium is highly reactive with sulfur, carbon, oxygen, and nitrogen, forming insoluble compounds that are trapped in slag. This makes it useful for deoxidizing, and sometimes for desulfurization and denitrification. Adding titanium to steel makes the metal have a finer grain structure.
