Applications
Ferro silicon 45 primarily serves as an inoculant in gray iron foundries, promoting Type A graphite formation and reducing chilling tendencies. It is also used in ferromanganese production as a reductant.
Ferro silicon 75 acts as a deoxidizer in electric arc furnace steelmaking, removing dissolved oxygen while simultaneously alloying steel. Its low aluminum content (<1.5%) prevents nozzle clogging in continuous casting. In magnesium production via the Pidgeon process, FeSi75 facilitates magnesium oxide reduction at 1,200°C, whereas FeSi45 lacks sufficient silicon for this reaction.

The deoxidation efficiency of ferro silicon 75 exceeds FeSi45 by 40-60% per metric ton in steelmaking, reducing consumption costs. FeSi75 generates 7,250 kcal/kg during exothermic reactions versus 5,100 kcal/kg for FeSi45.
Electrical resistivity differs significantly: FeSi75 measures 80-100 μΩ·cm for electrode pastes, while FeSi45 ranges at 45-60 μΩ·cm.
