Ferrovanadium is a key component in the iron and steel industry, where it plays a critical role in alloying steel, alloys and cast iron. Its main functions include achieving a fine-crystalline structure, increasing toughness and resistance, and improving the hardenability of steel. Nitrided ferrovanadium is specially designed for vanadium and nitrogen alloying of high-speed, low-alloy, stainless and frost-resistant steels. It is supplied in the form of pieces of 5-15 kg in steel drums.
The product is produced by the silicothermic/silico-aluminothermic method, which consists in the reduction of technical vanadium pentoxide with silicon in an electric arc furnace.
