High Quality Ferrovanadium Alloy 10-100mm Description
Ferrovanadium, which consists of 35-80% vanadium, is manufactured in an electric arc furnace. The process begins with melting scrap iron, followed by the addition of a blend of V2O5, aluminum, and a flux like fluoride or calcium oxide. During this process, aluminum is transformed into alumina, producing slag, while V2O5 is reduced to vanadium metal, which dissolves in the molten iron. This reaction generates sufficient heat, minimizing the need for additional heat to melt the iron. Once the initial heating is done, the electrodes are removed until the reaction concludes, after which they are reinserted into the molten slag, and the furnace is reheated to enhance the sedimentation process.
Alternatively, the aluminothermic process can be conducted in a steel pot with a refractory lining or in a water-cooled copper crucible. In this method, a mixture of V2O5, iron oxide, and aluminum is ignited using a wick made of barium peroxide or magnesium tape.
