Foundries use Silicon Metal 2202 to improve the mechanical properties of cast metals, from engine blocks to industrial machinery. It can form silicides (e.g., Mg2Si in aluminium alloys), which improves its heat resistance. In cast iron, it increases hardness and wear resistance.
