Silicon carbide-based refractory materials were prepared by vibration casting + high-temperature nitriding process with black silicon carbide powder, sintered white corundum powder (WFA), silica powder (MS), alumina powder (RA), and calcium aluminate cement (CAC) as the main raw materials and adding different proportions of metallic silicon powder. The effects of metallic silicon content of 5%, 7%, and 9% and nitriding temperature of 1300℃, 1420℃, and 1500℃ on the cold/hot flexural strength, phase composition, and microstructure of the samples were analyzed.

1.The cold and hot strength of black silicon carbide powder samples increase with the increase of nitriding temperature and the increase of metal silicon content in the raw material. After nitriding at 1420℃, the hot strength of samples with 7% and 9% metal silicon content in the raw material can exceed 50MPa at 1200℃. A large amount of nitrides formed in situ combine the particles with the matrix to form a network structure. The formation and structure of nitrides play a decisive role in improving the cold and hot strength.
