Silicon Barium Inoculant Description
Silica-barium alloy represents a new generation of high-efficiency composite barium alloys. It is a deoxidiser, desulfuriser and dephosphorisation agent for steelmaking. It is also an inoculant and metamorphic agent in casting.
Barium is an effective agent for reducing the vapor pressure of calcium and increasing the solubility of calcium in molten steel across the full range of steelmaking temperatures. The calcium content of the liquid steel is approximately twice that of the silicon calcium alloy when the amount of calcium added is half that of the silicon calcium alloy. Furthermore, the calcium content in the liquid steel is also significantly increased. The results demonstrated that barium effectively protected calcium and reduced the oxidation of calcium in the liquid steel, thus achieving the desired outcome of calcium treatment in the liquid steel.
