Using ferrosilicon alloy FeSi75 as raw material, the nitridation mechanism of flash combustion synthesis of ferrosilicon nitride was studied. The results show that during the nitriding process, silicon is first oxidized, and silicon is oxidized to form gaseous SiO, which reduces the oxygen partial pressure of the system. When the oxygen partial pressure p (O2) ≤ 10–20MPa (T = 1823K), Si and N2(g) reacts directly to form silicon nitride, and gaseous SiO2 eventually reacts with N2(g) to form silicon nitride.
FeSi2 and Fe0.42Si2.67 in ferrosilicon alloy FeSi75 do not promote the formation of silicon nitride, and react with silicon that does not participate in the nitridation reaction to form Fe3Si. The main phases of ferrosilicon nitride are silicon nitride and Fe3Si, in which there is a large amount of columnar silicon nitride. Fe3Si is wrapped by columnar Si3N4 and is in an isolated state.
