(1) Whole bags of refractory materials should be used, not materials that have been opened, damaged and subjected to moisture.
(2) Materials produced by two different manufacturers should not be mixed, nor should two different materials be mixed.
(3) No further additives such as cement, limestone, or any other additives (except steel fibers) can be added to the material unless approved by the manufacturer.

(4) Refractories with lumps or water seepage in the bag cannot be used. During transportation and storage of refractories, they may be compacted into lumps; such lumps may be gently rubbed away by hand and will not affect the performance of the refractory.
(5) Mixing, conveying, and installation of materials shall be in accordance with the manufacturer's recommended mixing temperature ranges for the particular material. Proper mixing temperatures will ensure the physical properties of the castables.
(6) The installer shall create the necessary temperature controls for proper mixing temperatures.

(7) If not specified by the material manufacturer, the total mixing time from the addition of water must not be less than 3 minutes and not more than 5 minutes. For low, ultra-low, and no-binder refractories, mixing time is the primary factor in determining the final physical properties of the material.
(8) The amount of refractory material to be mixed at each mixing session is scheduled according to the workload and should not be too large at any one time to ensure that the mixed material is installed prior to molding.
(9) Refractory material shall be conveyed to the installation site as soon as it is released from the mixer. Time intervals between mixing, water addition, conveying, and construction of the refractory material shall be in accordance with the material manufacturer's specifications.
(10) Measures shall be taken to prevent separation of materials during the conveying of the mix.
