In standard low-alloy steel, vanadium primarily serves to refine the grain structure, enhance the steel's strength, and minimize deformation over time. In various other steel types, it further refines the grain, resulting in increased strength and improved resistance to fracture. In spring steel, vanadium is combined with chromium or manganese to enhance the steel's elasticity before failure and to bolster its strength. In tool steel, it contributes to better structural integrity and grain size, boosts tempering resistance, enhances the secondary quenching effect, improves wear resistance, and extends the lifespan of tools. Vanadium is also beneficial in heat-resistant and anti-hydrogen steel applications. In cast iron, adding vanadium aids in carbide formation, promotes pearlite development, stabilizes the carburized structure, and results in finer, more uniform graphite particles.
