Silicon Nitride Ceramic Material Raw Materials Description
Silicon nitride (Si3N4) is a special kind of ceramic material that can handle high temperatures. This made it a good choice for use in engines during the energy crisis of the 1970s. It can resist sudden changes in temperature, which made it possible to create an engine that could operate at temperatures higher than conventional internal combustion engines, increasing their efficiency. Silicon nitride is made up of two common phases – α and β. α-Si3N4 is an oxygen-rich material that has long been thought to be a two-phase composite. Compared to the α-Si3N4 phase, the morphology of β-Si3N4 is usually fibrous, and it is often formed from α-Si3N4 during sintering. However, pure β-Si3N4 doesn't react well when it's heated, doesn't grow much, and is better used to make composite materials stronger.
