Metal silicon smelting process

1. Silicon furnace smelting: Silicon furnace smelting is a traditional metal silicon smelting process, which mainly includes the blast furnace method, calcium carbide method, and silica reduction method.

• Blast furnace method: silica is mixed with coke or pulverized coal and smelted in a blast furnace. In the blast furnace, the high temperature and reducing atmosphere generated by the combustion of coke or pulverized coal reduce the silicon dioxide in the silica to metallic silicon. This method has lower smelting cost but lower product purity.
• Calcium carbide method: Mix silica with coke or pulverized coal and smelt it in a calcium carbide furnace. In a calcium carbide furnace, silica is reduced to metallic silicon by arc heating. The smelting cost of this method is higher, but the purity of the product is higher.
• Silica reduction method: Mix silica with coke or coal powder and smelt it through a reduction furnace. In the reduction furnace, silica is reduced to metallic silicon through high temperature and reducing atmosphere. This method has moderate smelting costs and high product purity.

2. Electric furnace smelting: Electric furnace smelting is a new type of metal silicon smelting process, which mainly includes the electric arc furnace method and resistance furnace method.

• Electric arc furnace method: Put silica and electrodes into an electric arc furnace, and reduce the silica to metallic silicon through arc heating. The smelting cost of this method is higher, but the purity of the product is higher.
• Resistance furnace method: Put the silica and the resistance furnace into the resistance furnace, and reduce the silica to metallic silicon through resistance heating. This method has moderate smelting costs and high product purity.
