UHP Graphite Electrode 600mm Description
The electrodes are integrated into the furnace lid and are assembled into columns. Subsequently, an electric arc is formed between the electrodes, generating a high temperature that melts the scrap steel. The dimensions of the electrodes vary considerably, with diameters reaching up to 0.75 metres (2.5 feet) and lengths of up to 2.8 metres (9 feet). The largest of these weigh in excess of two metric tons.
The production of one tonne of steel requires the use of graphite electrodes with a mass of up to 3 kg (6.6 lb).
The tip of the electrode will reach a temperature of 3,000 degrees Celsius, which is approximately half that of the sun's surface. The electrodes are manufactured from graphite due to its ability to withstand the intense heat generated.
Subsequently, the furnace is rotated to a horizontal position, enabling the transfer of the molten steel into receptacles designated as ladles. Subsequently, the ladles convey the molten steel to the steel mill's caster, which utilises the recycled scrap to manufacture new products.
