Ferro-vanadium is an iron alloy that includes vanadium and is utilized in steel manufacturing to enhance the strength of the metal. In China, the primary raw material for producing ferro-vanadium is vanadium titanomagnetite. The process involves purifying vanadium-containing pig iron in a blast furnace, while vanadium slag is obtained through a spray furnace or converter blast. The vanadium slag is then crushed, and sodium salt (such as soda ash, salt, or anhydrous myrtenite) is added to facilitate sodium oxide firing, which transforms vanadium into soluble sodium metavanadate (NaVO3). Following this, ammonium sulfate is introduced to create ammonium polyvanate, which is subsequently deaminated and melted to yield sheets of vanadium pentoxide.
