Nitrided ferrosilicon is a ferroalloy primarily composed of silicon nitride (Si3N4), along with free iron, non-silicon nitride, and a small number of other components. Industrial-grade nitrided refractory ferrosilicon appears as a whitish or brown powder, whereas steel-grade nitrided ferrosilicon is found in the form of whitish granules.
The powdered form of nitrided ferrosilicon is primarily utilized in the valve openings of large blast furnaces, with a smaller quantity employed in iron runners or other amorphous refractory materials.
