Ferrochrome is an industrial material used in the production of steel and other metal alloys. It consists of iron, chromium, and various impurities, such as carbon, sulfur, and phosphorus. Due to its composition and properties, ferrochrome helps prevent rust in metal products. As a result, over 80% of ferrochrome is utilized in the metallurgical industry, primarily for manufacturing stainless steel.

 

To enhance the strength of steel, ferrochrome with varying carbon content is incorporated into steel and other alloys. Low-carbon ferrochrome (0.01% to 0.06%) is used in the production of high-chromium, low-carbon steel, improving its durability and corrosion resistance. Medium- and high-carbon ferrochrome, on the other hand, is commonly used in structural steel, ball bearings, and other specialized steel grades. While these materials offer strength and corrosion resistance, an increase in carbon content makes the metal less elastic (prone to breaking) and more brittle (susceptible to cracking).

 

Additionally, a small amount of silicon is introduced into the mixture, with its proportion varying depending on the intended use of the steel. Ferrochrome mixed with silicon is used to create robust metal structures capable of withstanding high pressure. However, if extreme durability is not required, a material with lower silicon content can be used instead.
