The packaging must be sealed to prevent moisture. It should be stored separately from acids, alcohols, etc., and should not be stored together. The storage area should be equipped with suitable materials to contain leaks.

Emergency response to calcium carbide leaks

Contain the contaminated area and restrict access. Eliminate sources of ignition. It is recommended that emergency responders wear self-contained breathing apparatus and chemical protective clothing. Do not come into direct contact with the leak.
Small leak: Mix with sand, dry lime or soda ash. Collect in a dry, clean, covered container using non-sparking tools and transfer to a safe place.
Large leak: Cover with plastic sheet or canvas. Contact the relevant technical department to determine the removal method.
