Graphitized Petroleum Coke Description
Graphitized petroleum coke (GPC) is a black or dark grey solid with metallic lustre and porosity, produced from petroleum. It is a carbonite composed of minute graphite crystals in the form of granular, columnar, or needle-shaped. Petroleum coke components are hydrocarbons, containing more than 99% carbon, and also contain nitrogen, chlorine, sulfur, and heavy metal compounds. A graphitized petroleum coke recarburizer is a product that uses calcined petroleum coke as a raw material. It is then placed in a graphitization furnace, where it undergoes high-temperature graphitization and a series of physical and chemical reactions. This process also involves the removal of sulfur and ash, as well as other impurities. This product is sometimes referred to as an 'artificial graphite recarburiser' and is often used as a recarburiser, in which case it is known as an 'ultra-low sulphur/low nitrogen recarburiser'. The production of graphite petroleum coke involves the heating of high-quality petroleum coke to a temperature of between 2,500 and 3,500 degrees Celsius.
