99.95% Magnesium Ingots Description
Due to its similarities with aluminium ingots, 99.95% magnesium ingots can be used as a substitute for a significant proportion of aluminium applications. Nevertheless, the cost of extracting magnesium remains a significant barrier to its wider adoption, with the metal currently priced at approximately 20% more than aluminium.
Over half of all magnesium is used in alloys with aluminium, which are valued for their strength, lightness and resistance to sparking. These alloys are widely used in automobile parts. Indeed, a number of car manufacturers utilise cast magnesium-aluminium (Mg-Al) alloys in the production of steering wheels, steering columns, support brackets, instrument panels, pedals and inlet manifold housings, among a wide range of other components. Mg-Al die castings are also used to manufacture transmission and clutch housings.
While beer and soda cans do not have the same requirements as aerospace alloys, a small amount of magnesium is used in the aluminium alloy that forms these cans. Despite using only a small amount of magnesium per can, this industry is the largest consumer of the metal.
