(1) Acetylene
Production Industrial Welding and Cutting: The flame temperature of acetylene and oxygen can reach 3100°C and is widely used in metal processing.
Chemical synthesis: Acetylene is a key raw material for the production of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), vinyl acetate, acrylic acid, etc.
(2) Calcium
Cyanamide Fertilizer Slow-release nitrogen fertilizer: It is hydrolyzed in the soil to form cyanamide (H2CN2), which gradually releases nitrogen.
Soil improvement: It can regulate soil acidity and has insecticidal and anti-weed effects (such as fighting nematodes).
(3) Metallurgical Industry
Metal Reducing Agent: It is used to produce metals with a high melting point, such as vanadium and tungsten, and reduce their oxides.
Desulfurizing Agent: It removes sulfur impurities in steel smelting.
(4) Other niche uses
Fruit ripening: The released acetylene contributes to the formation of ethylene, but it is banned in the European Union, Japan, etc. (residual safety concerns).
Early lighting: Calcium carbide lamps were once used in mines and outdoors and now exist only as historical displays.
