Ferrosilicon is smelted in open or semi-closed reduction furnaces by continuous operation. The electrodes are inserted deeply and steadily into the charge, and throughout the smelting process a uniform charge, with a small amount of charge, is added as the surface of the material sinks uniformly. The material surface in the furnace always maintains a certain height and is in the shape of a flat vertebra. When the iron in the furnace accumulates to a certain level, the furnace eye is opened and released.
In the reduction of silicon dioxide with carbon as the reducing agent, silicon carbide and silicon monoxide produce intermediate products, and the production and decomposition of silicon carbide and silicon monoxide play an important role in the whole reduction process. When iron is present, the reduced silicon reacts with iron to produce FeSi, and the silicon carbide is also destroyed by iron to produce FeSi. at the same time, the presence of iron can cause silicon to sink into the molten pool, causing it to leave the reaction zone, thus improving the conditions for the reduction of silicon dioxide.
Ferrosilicon smelting, the reduction reaction of silicon dioxide can be expressed as follows:SiO2 + 2C + nFe = FenSi + 2CO generated iron silicide due to the iron content is different, the reaction releases different amounts of heat, so the ferrosilicon content is different, the beginning of the reduction temperature is also different. The lower the silicon content of fused silica, the lower the theoretical start reaction temperature of silica reduction. The furnace charge is proportionally dosed in the order of coke, silica and steel chips. Only one batch of material is allowed to be weighed at a time, and the weighing should be accurate.
