These high-strength low-alloy (HSLA) steels are commonly utilized in automotive components like hoods and door panels, as well as in oil and gas pipelines. Nearly all tool steels contain vanadium in concentrations ranging from 0.10 to 5%. Additionally, in certain types of cast iron, adding a small amount of vanadium helps regulate the size and distribution of graphite flakes, resulting in more durable and wear-resistant castings. Vanadium steel castings also exhibit excellent impact and wear resistance, making them suitable for heavy machinery and equipment.
