The applications of calcium carbide are numerous and include the production of acetylene, calcium cyanamide (raw material for the production of fertilizers, cyanide compounds), carbide-urea plant growth regulator, acetylene black and organic synthesis products (synthetic rubber, vinyl chloride, acrylonitrile, ethylene, chlorinated acetylene derivatives, acetone, styrene, acetic acid, artificial resins), alkali metal reduction and gas welding using acetylene.
